Dean Myers Elementary School was opened in August of 1976, in the Candler Community of the Hall County School System. The school served students in kindergarten through the sixth grade.  In 1988, the sixth grade was transferred to South Hall Middle School.

The Myers Elementary school building was originally designed into five pods. Each pod had four classrooms, a teacher workstation, a storage room, and restrooms. Included in the design were twenty classrooms, a media center, an art/music room and a cafeteria.

The original building accommodated 375 children. As the student population increased, the building facilities became cramped. In April of 1996, an additional thirteen classrooms plus art and music rooms were constructed. This relieved the over-crowded conditions for only a year. Portables were placed on the school grounds and then in August of 2000, a new wing was constructed.

This added housing for ten additional classrooms. Some portables remained on the grounds. In August of 2002, a Pre-K was added to the facility. Currently, Myers houses 43 classrooms, a music and art room, gymnasium, media center, computer lab, cafeteria and five portables.

Candler, the South Hall community in which Myers Elementary is located, was once mostly rural but is growing and changing continuously. Due to the CSX railroad and the close proximity to Interstate 985 many large businesses continue to build along Candler Highway.

Myers is within a few miles of the Lee Gilmer Airport  Along with industrial growth, the Myers School district continues to gain housing. An increase in subdivision development, mobile home parks and rental housing areas currently provide living quarters for the majority of Myers students. This has resulted in an overall increase in student population.
